Publications

After you have pressed the Publish button to publish a test then a publication will be created which is a copy of the test with all the settings you made in the publication controls. The publication is now independent of the test and shows on the publication tab. Changes to the original test will not change the publication.

The first thing you will see after publishing a test is your publication opened on the publication tab of the Set YOUR own TESTS publisher. Different publication types have different things on the screen specific to that particular type (detailed below). The opened publication on the publication tab is the same as choosing your publication from the publication list on the publication tab which you will do next time you want to work with it. The opened publication is shown on what is called the publication panel. To go to the list instead press the Close this button; you will see your publication listed - it is already saved.

If you do not have an account or your account is inactive the publication will not be saved to the server. What you are seeing is a dummy publication for evaluation purposes only.


The publication panel

For all publication types types other than Fun Quiz your respondents will be listed here. You have controls to stop accepting responses and to export information in a respondents report, a CSV file for import into a spreadsheet or you can see the answers, including the non auto-marked answers for every respondent. You can also use the preview function to see the publication in the previewer without going to the actual publication. 

The URL and embed code is available by pressing a button. The URL can be used on a web page or send it in an email so that respondents can access your publication. The embed code can be used to paste into the HTML edit option in a blog for example or into the body of a page on your website. You can change the width and height settings to suit your website.

For each respondent you can add notes and see their status as passed, not passed or (for Named Respondents) in progress and flag them for your convenience. You can click to see their answers. If you are using a paid-for account type (Basic or Corporate) then you can delete individual respondents. 

You can also filter the respondents list by flagged, passed, failed, and order them by score.

For those publication types where timed tests are available you can see the time taken. This is also available when viewing individual respondent reports. Those respondents who have taken longer than the allowed time will show as failed even if their score is above the pass percent.

Respondent rows represent the individual respondents in the respondents list on the publication panel. The icon and colour highlight if they have passed or not.

Respondent id

A unique id for this respondent for this publication.

See the Named Respondents page or the Respondents by email page to see the ways to set this. The email when captured in a General publication also goes here.

Flagged (!)

This is set automatically when the respondent completes the publication. You can filter on it (see filtering). Just tick/untick to set/unset - you don't need to press save or anything like that.

Notes

You can add notes. Notes can be added automatically as one possible option in the Respondents by email process. Notes are shown on the results and the CSV export.

Filtering

You can filter which respondents you see in the list. The filter remains through a refresh. To activate the filter just change the value in the list box - you don't need to press the refresh button.

Respondents by email

Respondents by email is a publication type where respondents email you a key to view their results. This means that YOU get their email address - not Set YOUR own TESTS. Respondents are shown in the list only when you have accepted them after receiving their email. You set the email address that they send their key to when you publish the test. You can either enter the key into the publication panel (and add an identifier) or use email functionality to forward the email to Set YOUR own TESTS and get their results back in your inbox.

Named Respondents

For the Named Respondents publication type you set up your respondents on the publication panel. You just enter any identifier you use for that person, name email or whatever you like and press the button. The respondent appears in the list straight away. You can see when a respondent has commenced or finished by clicking the refresh button for that respondent. For paid-for account types you can delete them individually as well.

Fun Quiz

Respondents are not shown on the publication panel for this type of publication. For more information about Fun Quizzes then please see the publishing Fun Quizzes page.


General

When a respondent submits their answers you will see a row in the Publication panel. 

You can capture respondent identity by choosing either capture email address or Sign-in with Google - or anonymous if you prefer. If you have chosen to capture their email address or Sign-in with Google then the email address will be shown in the Reference column on the Publication panel.

If you chose anonymous then any identifying details you asked for in your questions will be shown when you view their answers.

To export information

You can export data for publications including reports on all respondents and a CSV export for use in a spreadsheet. To read all about it go to the exporting page.

To delete a publication

To delete a publication go to the publication tab. If the publication panel is showing on the tab then choose the Close this button. You will see your publications listed. Tick (check) the box to the left of the publication and the delet button will become visible. Press this to delete your publication.
